Asante Kotoko coach Abdul Karim Zito has bemoaned the lack of rest for his players ahead of the start of the 2025/26 season.
The FA Cup winners were involved in a series of post-season tournaments, including the Toyota Cup and the GHALCA Top 4.
Kotoko struggled in the Top 4 tournament, finishing the competition without a win in three matches.
However, the Porcupine Warriors bounced back to beat Bibiani GoldStars in the Champion of Champions game
“I think the only problem we had was after the season we didn’t have the opportunity to rest. We played FA Cup immediately we finished we attacked the Presidential Cup, immediately we finished we traveled outside to play Kaizer Chiefs,” Zito explained to AKSC Media.
“So when we came back it then the stage for us to do the preseason instead of us to rest we couldn’t rest enough then we started. We were also in the first phase of the preseason when Top Four also came,” he added.
The former Ghana Premier League champions will begin the season with a trip to Berekum to face Chelsea.
“In terms of creativity it was nice but the play wasn’t good⦠I was not down because I know definitely this is what is going to happen to the team but we came back and gathered momentum and we went for the champion of champions then we won."
