The Ghana Football Association (GFA), through its Medical Committee, has taken another step in safeguarding the health and performance of players with the successful organisation of a Pre-Season Medical Webinar on Tuesday.
The initiative reflects the GFA’s commitment to ensuring a safe, healthy, and competitive Premier League season, which kicks off this weekend.
The interactive session brought together medical representatives from clubs across the Premier League, Women’s Premier League, and Division One League, alongside leading experts in sports medicine, nutrition, and psychology. Discussions focused on practical solutions to injury prevention, performance optimisation, and mental health support for players.
Key highlights included strategies for managing football’s most common injuries, such as ACL tears, ankle sprains, and groin pain, led by Dr. Abena Tannor and Dr. Eric Tetteh Ayertey. Nutritionist Mrs. Renee Opare Otoo provided evidence-based insights on hydration, fueling, and the dangers of supplement misuse, while Dr. Ernest Anim-Opare and psychologist Dr. Philip Omoregie addressed stress management, burnout, and performance anxiety.
By integrating real football scenarios, the session connected medical science with on-the-ground realities, fostering collaboration and practical knowledge sharing among club medical teams.
According to the Medical Committee, the webinar is the first in a series of planned sessions, both virtual and in-person, designed to provide continuous, high-quality health support throughout the season.
This initiative forms part of the GFA’s broader commitment to safeguarding player welfare and raising medical standards across Ghanaian football.
