The Mali Football Federation is reportedly preparing to lodge a complaint with FIFA over the performance of match officials during their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Ghana in Accra.
Ghana claimed a 1-0 win at the Accra Sports Stadium thanks to Alexander Djiku’s 49th-minute strike.
But the Malian camp was left angered, arguing that referee Badi Luxolo overlooked several fouls in the lead-up to the goal, including a challenge on goalkeeper Djigui Diarra.
The officiating team featured assistant referees Phatsoane Souru of Lesotho and Cledwin Baloyi of South Africa, while Namibia’s Naftal Mweshitsama Negongo acted as the fourth official.
Morocco’s Guezzaz Mohammed served as referee assessor, with Nigeria’s Kachalla Babagana Kalli as match commissioner.
Malian players and officials were seen repeatedly protesting Luxolo’s decisions throughout the match, with frustrations boiling over after the decisive goal.
According to African football insider Micky Jnr, the Mali FA is preparing to escalate the matter to FIFA, targeting both the officiating crew and the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The result keeps Ghana in control of Group C with 19 points from eight matches, while Mali remain fourth on 12 points and face a steep challenge to reach the 2026 World Cup.
