Bibiani GoldStars coach Frimpong Manso has admitted his side’s lack of midfield compactness was decisive in their 1-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko in the Super Cup at Dun’s Park on Sunday.
The highly anticipated clash, which served as the curtain-raiser for the new Ghana football season, was settled by a second-half strike from Kotoko’s new signing Musah Hamzata.
The youngster converted from a set piece just before the 70th minute, silencing the home crowd and handing Kotoko a narrow victory.
Reflecting on the contest, Manso expressed disappointment with his side’s inability to control the midfield.
“I think now every game that we play or we want to play is going to be like this. Very difficult. Because now at this time of the season, every team is very strong,” he said.
He added: “The first half was very physical. Both sides were not putting the ball on the turf. It was one end to the other. For me, it wasn’t all that good football. But at least the second half, in terms of possession, I think it improved to some extent. So it means we need to look at that place well. At the highest level, you cannot be losing possessions like that, especially in the midfield.”
Kotoko’s victory avenged their defeat to the reigning league champions in the recent GHALCA Top 4 tournament.
