Christian Conteh had his moment of joy, but Eintracht Braunschweig were left frustrated after Arminia Bielefeld fought back to earn a 1-1 draw in their Bundesliga 2 clash at the Eintracht-Stadion.
The German-Ghanaian striker, who started and played 69 minutes, delighted home fans when he broke the deadlock in the 65th minute. Levente Szabó slipped a clever through ball into his path, and Conteh kept his cool with a sharp left-footed finish into the bottom corner. It was a reward for Braunschweig’s hard running despite having just 30 percent possession.
The home side thought they had done enough, but late drama silenced the crowd. With only a minute of normal time left, Isaiah Young found space inside the box and slotted home from close range after a pass from Florian Micheler, leaving Braunschweig hearts heavy.
The result keeps the head-to-head tight, with Braunschweig now three wins, Bielefeld four, and four draws.
Braunschweig will aim to turn hard work into victory when they face Darmstadt on September 13.
