Michael Baidoo’s bright performance was not enough to save Umm Salal from heartbreak as they fell 3-2 to Al-Arabi in a dramatic Qatar Stars League clash at Al Thumama Stadium.
The Ghanaian midfielder struck first in the 28th minute, finishing coolly from an Oussama Tannane cross to give Umm Salal a surprise lead. His effort sparked loud cheers from the visiting fans, who were delighted to see Baidoo’s sharp movement and composure.
Al-Arabi, however, responded on the stroke of halftime through Wassim Keddari’s header. The second half opened with more drama as Tannane restored Umm Salal’s advantage with a fine free-kick in the 49th minute. But Al-Arabi piled on the pressure, dominating possession and shots. Their persistence paid off when Ahmed Doozandeh leveled the game in the 54th minute.
Deep into stoppage time, Jordan Veretout curled home a stunning free-kick to seal victory for Al-Arabi, leaving Umm Salal players shattered.
Despite the defeat, Baidoo’s all-round display stood out. Umm Salal now turn their focus to the QSL Cup tie against Al Shamal on September 3.
