Ghana international midfielder Stella Nyamekye has secured a loan move to Fort Lauderdale United FC from NWSL side NJ/NY Gotham FC ahead of the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League season.
The deal is pending league and federation approval.
The 19-year-old, who has quickly established herself as one of Ghana’s brightest young prospects, joins the ambitious American club to bolster their midfield options.
“We are very excited to have Stella with us on loan from Gotham,” said Ali Rogers, Associate Head Coach of Fort Lauderdale United.
“She adds a creative and dynamic piece to our attack, and her experience competing on both the professional and international stage will elevate our group.”
Nyamekye has enjoyed a rapid rise in her career. After starting with Ghana Women’s Premier League side Dreamz Ladies, where she scored an impressive 31 goals in 41 appearances, she earned a high-profile transfer to Gotham in December 2024.
She made her NWSL debut in April 2025 and has featured in two matches so far.
On the international stage, Nyamekye debuted for the Black Queens in 2023 at just 17 years old.
She starred at the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations, scoring a crucial semifinal goal against Morocco and adding an assist in the group stages as Ghana clinched bronze.
She also captained Ghana’s U-20 team at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, netting two goals and providing an assist.
Fort Lauderdale’s General Manager Aly Hassan hailed the teenager as a “game-changing talent” whose creativity and technical ability will bring a new dimension to their midfield.
Nyamekye is expected to play a key role as Fort Lauderdale aim to challenge for the Super League title this season.
