Police Ladies coach Yussif Basigi was full of pride after watching his side respond strongly in their second group game at the WAFU B qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Basigi explained that lessons from their opening defeat against Bayelsa Queens shaped the team’s approach on Wednesday evening. The Ghanaian side looked sharper and more confident, beating Benin’s Sam Nelly 3-1 at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.
Goals from Grace Animah, Sarah Nyarkoh, and Deborah Afriyie sealed the important win that kept their hopes alive in the competition. For Basigi, the turnaround came from adjustments made after their earlier loss.
"As a coach it is very prudent for you to prompt your players as and when necessary so I needed to guide them to play and they were adhering to all the calls and it was working. I think it is a normal thing for every coach to do. I said we must win this game if we want to be in the competition so it was something that we prepared for. We corrected our mistakes in the first game and I think it really worked for us," as aired by Peace FM.
Police Ladies now shift focus to their next challenge against ASKO of Togo.
