Former Ghana captain John Mensah believes the future of the Black Stars depends on how well the local league is supported.
The ex-defender, who once led Ghana at major tournaments, said the quality of the domestic game has a direct link to the strength of the national team.
"When they say how the national team is going is not good they know that there are little things that are not good. Nowadays, if you see the local clubs the league matches they play it doesn't function like those days I hope that if they keep their eyes on the local clubs I think they can do better for the nation," he told Peace FM.
Mensah’s call comes at a time when excitement is building for the start of the Ghana Premier League. The season kicks off on the weekend of September 12, 2025, and runs until May 23/24, 2026. Defending champions Gold Stars FC will begin their campaign at home against Bechem United at Duns Park in Bibiani.
