Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has given the green light to the much-talked-about World Cup Cheer Train project - an initiative that aims to put Ghana at the centre of global diaspora activities during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Minister met with officials of BIDEC Inc. and its partners in Accra on Tuesday, where the group unveiled their plans to blend sports, tourism, culture, and community into one big platform that will showcase Ghana during the tournament, set to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Hon. Adams described the project as bold and well-timed, pointing out that it fits perfectly with Ghana’s vision of boosting sports tourism and building stronger ties with the African diaspora.
He assured the delegation that the Ministry will provide all the necessary guidance and support to make the dream a reality.
He also underlined the need for due diligence, stakeholder involvement, and safety, stressing that these will be key pillars in making the project a success.
A joint working group has already been set up to oversee the smooth rollout of activities.
The World Cup Cheer Train will not only promote Ghana at the 2026 World Cup but will also be activated at international events like the Black History Festival in Atlanta, alongside regional engagements across Africa, highlighting Ghana’s growing role in sports diplomacy.
The move is another step in cementing Ghana’s influence on the global stage and reinforces the country’s push to become a top destination for sports, culture, and tourism.
