
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation, in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Adesa Production Limited, convened a high-level strategic engagement at Kempinski Hotel on the August 17, 2025, to mobilise corporate support for the Ghana Premier League and football development at large.
The event, held under the theme “Investing in Ghana’s Football Transformation,” brought together senior executives from corporate Ghana, club owners, representatives of the football fraternity, and the media.
It was graced by the presence of the Chief of Staff at the Jubilee House, Hon. Julius Debrah, who reaffirmed the government’s full support for initiatives aimed at reviving the domestic league and raising the standard of Ghanaian football.
Delivering the keynote address, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, underscored the critical role of private sector partnership in transforming football from a passion-driven activity into a viable industry.
He assured corporate Ghana that every investment made into Ghanaian football would deliver tangible value, citing the global evidence of football sponsorships boosting brand exposure, consumer loyalty, and long-term returns.
The Minister also challenged clubs and their owners to ensure that corporate resources are managed prudently.
He emphasised the need for deliberate investments in fan engagement, marketing, and player welfare, noting that players are the true product that attracts spectators and sponsors.
“A beautiful game is only beautiful when clubs market their stars and provide the conditions for players to deliver their best," he stated.
The government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for corporate partnerships was further reiterated.
The Minister highlighted ongoing discussions on tax incentives for sponsors, revealed that a review is being considered on the existing ban on alcohol sponsorship in sports, and confirmed that the Sports Fund Bill is being finalised to provide sustainable financing for grassroots and elite sports.
He noted that after investing in football, corporate Ghana will be called upon to contribute to the Fund in support of the entire sports ecosystem.
The Ministry expresses its appreciation to all corporate leaders and stakeholders who attended today’s engagement and looks forward to building enduring partnerships that will restore the Ghana Premier League and elevate Ghana’s football to world-class standards.
