Roma sporting director Ricky Massara is intensifying efforts to secure a deal for Chelsea youngster Tyrique George, as negotiations continue in London.
The Giallorossi chief is attempting to convince the Premier League side to reduce their â¬20 million valuation of the highly rated winger.
George, who is of Nigerian and Ghanaian heritage, has been on the radar of several top clubs after emerging from Chelsea’s academy ranks.
His talent has drawn attention across Europe, and Roma see him as a promising long-term investment, though their hierarchy believe the current fee being demanded is excessive.
Massara’s visit to London also includes talks with representatives of Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, but sources in Italy report that discussions with Chelsea form a key part of his trip.
The youngster was recently offered to Manchester United in a proposed swap deal involving Alejandro Garnacho, yet those conversations stalled. Roma, however, have entered the frame with a view to a straight purchase.
George’s agent, Emeka Obasi, is said to have played a pivotal role in presenting the winger to Roma’s technical staff.
The Italian club are keen to bolster their attacking options and view the 19-year-old as a player who can develop under their system, but only if Chelsea show flexibility on the fee.
For now, Massara continues to test Chelsea’s resolve, aware that Roma’s transfer budget limits how much they can stretch for a player yet to prove himself consistently at senior level.
Chelsea, meanwhile, remain firm on their valuation, citing George’s potential as justification.
