Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club have parted ways with Ghanaian striker Samuel Obeng Gyabaa after just a brief spell at the club, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm
The former Ghana U23 forward joined Wydad during the winter transfer window from Portuguese side Casa Pia, with hopes of reviving his career under South African coach Rulani Mokwena.
However, his time in Casablanca failed to meet expectations as he struggled to adapt to the demands of the Moroccan topflight.
Reports indicate that Obeng managed only 16 appearances across all competitions, registering two goals and two assists.
His limited impact on the pitch forced the Wydad hierarchy to mutually agree to a contract termination, ending his stay earlier than anticipated.
The decision marks another setback for the 27-year-old, who has spent most of his professional career in Spain with clubs such as Girona, Getafe, Real Oviedo, Granollers, and Calahorra before his short stint in Portugal.
Obeng is not new to North African football, having represented Ghana at the 2019 CAF U23 Cup of Nations in Egypt, where he emerged as the Black Meteors’ best performer with two goals.
Now a free agent, the former Ghana U23 star will be seeking new opportunities to reignite his career, with potential suitors expected both in Africa and abroad.
