Union Omaha fans had plenty to cheer about as their side recorded a 2-0 victory over AV Alta in USL League One Round 1 at Werner Park.
Ghanaian winger Prosper Kassim stole the spotlight, scoring the opening goal in the 27th minute after a set-piece opportunity, finishing with a precise left-footed strike to the bottom right corner.
Kassim played the full 90 minutes, showcasing speed, creativity, and determination, constantly troubling the Alta defense. His performance energized the home crowd, who had long waited for Union Omaha to notch a first win against the visiting team, given their previous record of no wins against Alta.
The second goal came late in the game when Alta’s Kaloyan Pehlivanov inadvertently turned a cross into his own net in the 78th minute, sealing the victory. Despite holding only 40% possession, Union Omaha created the clearest chances and demonstrated disciplined defending throughout.
With this morale-boosting win, Union Omaha now look ahead to their next league match against Westchester SC on September 13th, hoping Kassim can continue his fine form.
