Ghanaian forward Eugene Ansah was the hero for FC Ashdod as they secured a 2-1 victory over Hapoel Jerusalem in the Israeli Ligat Ha’al Round 1 clash at Teddi Malcha Stadium.
Hapoel Jerusalem drew first blood in the 38th minute when Andrew Idoko headed home from close range, giving the hosts an early lead. But Ashdod responded in style after the break. Ansah, who started and played the full 90 minutes, found the net in the 54th minute with a precise right-footed shot, assisted by Adir Levi, leveling the score and lifting the spirits of the traveling Ashdod fans.
The winning goal came in the 74th minute when Ilay Tamam struck from the center of the box, sending the ball to the top right corner, sealing the three points for Ashdod.
Ashdod had fewer shots on target than the hosts but showed efficiency and composure when it mattered most. With this win, Ansah and his teammates now look ahead to their next league match against Bnei Sakhnin on August 30th.
