Ghana international Mohammed Kudus says Tottenham Hotspur must take valuable lessons from their UEFA Super Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, despite a spirited performance in Italy on Wednesday night.
Spurs, winners of last season’s Europa League, looked set for an upset after taking a 2-0 lead at the Stadio Friuli, only to see the French champions claw back in the dying minutes before prevailing in a penalty shootout.
Micky van de Ven put Tottenham ahead in the first half, with captain Cristian Romero doubling the advantage shortly after the restart.
But late goals from substitutes Lee Kang-in and Goncalo Ramos in the 85th and 94th minutes forced penalties, where misses from Van de Ven and Mathys Tel proved costly.
“We’re very disappointed to lose the game in the end. This is a big lesson to stay focused for the whole 90 minutes,” Kudus said.
“I’m really, really proud of the team for their work ethic and their energy⦠just the last part where we need to keep full concentration.”
Kudus, who joined Spurs from West Ham United this summer, impressed on his competitive debut, striking the post with a first-half header.
The Ghanaian will now turn his attention to Saturday’s Premier League clash against newly promoted Burnley.
