2025 WAFU B U20 Boys Cup: Niger overcome Togo with 1-0 win in opening Group B match
Niger earned a hard-fought victory on Friday, beating Togo by a goal to nil at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram to begin their campaign at the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship on a positive note.The U20 national teams of the two countries locked horns today in their opening Group B match at this years tournament.Both national teams put up a strong performance, but only one goal was scored despite the several chances created.The only goal of the match was scored by Abdoul Latif Goumey in the 28th minute. The teenager calmly slotted home from close range to send his team into the break with a narrow lead.Despite all efforts by Togo in the second half, the team could not equalise and had to succumb to a defeat at the end of the 90 minutes.In the other Group B match played on Friday, defending champions Ivory Coast defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in a pulsating encounter.With Ivory Coast and Niger off to winning starts, the two national teams are in a good position to advance to the knockout stage of the 2025 WABU Zone B U20 Boys Cup.
