2025 WAFU B U20 Boys Cup: Defending champions Ivory Coast begin campaign with 2-1 win against Burkina Faso
Ivory Coast secured a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso on Friday to kick off their campaign at the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Boys Cup.The defending champions are part of the countries competing at this years tournament, being staged at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Ghana.In the exciting Group B match played against Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast put up a fine performance to overcome the opponent.A strike by Yaya Tap on the stroke of halftime gave the defending champions a narrow lead to take into the break.The teenager equalised with a clinical finish to cap off a well-worked attacking move.After recess, Burkina Faso came in strong in a bid to get back into the game. Unfortunately, Ivory Coast were too strong.The Young Elephants scored a second in the 75th minute through Namory Keita. That goal served as insurance and ensured that the team bagged all three points at the end of the contest.The only consolation goal for Burkina Faso was scored by Salif Simpor in the 80th minute.The win on Friday has propelled Ivory Coast to the summit of the Group B standings at the end of the first round of group games.
