Sports Minister Kofi Adams promises revival of neglected Nyinahin Youth Resource Centre
In a determined step toward rejuvenating abandoned sports infrastructure across the country, Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has pledged to complete the long-abandoned Nyinahin Youth Resource Centre. The Minister, alongside Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, visited the site on Thursday, 9, 2025, as part of an ongoing national audit of stalled sports projects. The Nyinahin complex, once a symbol of hope for youth development in the Atwima Mponua District, was found in a disheartening state.Though officially classified as 95% complete, the facilitys reality tells a different story - terraces overrun by weeds, an unmaintained pitch, water-damaged stands, and unfinished interiors.Sports Development Officer Adutwum Sam described the situation as a project nearing completion on paper but falling apart in person. The Minister expressed deep concern over the facilitys decline, calling the scene heartbreaking.Funded primarily through the District Development Fund, the centre was envisioned as a modern hub featuring basketball and volleyball courts, an indoor arena, ICT spaces, restaurants, and administrative offices. However, the main contractor exited the project in November 2024 without formally handing over the site, leaving several components incomplete.Hon. Adams pledged to collaborate with the Ministry of Youth Development to fast-track the final stages of construction - specifically the installation of floodlights, dressing rooms, and other sports-specific elements. He also emphasised the urgency of resolving land documentation issues, noting that encroachment remains a threat due to missing boundary records. This centre has the potential to be a key venue for clubs like Bibiani GoldStars and a critical resource for youth in the region, Adams said. We must not let this opportunity rot.Dr. Amoakohene echoed the commitment, assuring that the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council would provide full support to secure the site and expedite necessary approvals. The inspection at Nyinahin follows a similar visit to Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, signalling a renewed push by the government to restore dormant sports facilities and reignite community development through recreation.Below are some photos of the facility:
