In the coming days South Africa will be hosting the M20 Summit 2025, where global media leaders will meet to deliberate on the media and journalism. Among them will be the Managing Editor of Ghana Business News, Mr Emmanuel K Dogbevi.
Mr Dogbevi who will be attending the event in his capacity as the Vice President of the African Editors Forum (TAEF) will join other panelists to talk on the subject of AI and news media.
The M20 Summit is a two-day international conference being organised on the sidelines of the G20 programme in South Africa. It will focus on the role of media and journalism to foster information integrity as a cornerstone for human rights, effective governance, international cooperation and public trust needed for social and economic development, the organisers have said.
According to the organisers, the conference amplifies voices from emerging G20 economies, African and other media stakeholders in exploring actionable proposals that align with the priorities of the G20 and unique challenges faced by developing nations.
The Summit topics cover the issues raised in the M20 policy briefs, and other matters related to the role of media and information integrity in the G20.
The G20
The G20, or Group of Twenty, is a forum for 19 countries and two regional bodies (the European Union and the African Union). It was formed in 1999 to address global economic and financial issues, and its members represent a significant portion of the world’s economy, with members accounting for 85% of the global Gross Domestic Product and over 75% of global trade.
The G20 doesn’t have a permanent secretariat; instead, a member country holds the presidency annually, responsible for setting the agenda in consultation with other members.
The countries include: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, United Kingdom, and United States and two regional bodies; the European Union and the African Union.
