

Mr John Kwadwo Gyapong, Oti Regional Minister, has taken a significant step towards boosting the local economy by courting Chinese investors to establish a cassava processing factory in the region.
The initiative aims to create jobs, increase farmers’ income, and enhance the region’s agricultural value chain.
The Minister and his team met with the Chinese investors, led by Mr. David Tai, CEO of Tiast Group, and Madam Priscilla Fiati, Director of Business Development, at the Oti Regional Co-ordinating Council (ORCC).
Madam Fiati explained that Tiast Group offered systematic technical training for operators, workshop directors, and technical factory directors.
She also said the company assisted financial leasing services to customers who owned planting resources and corresponding plant construction foundations, with a 2–5-year financial period for equipment.
She noted that Tiast Group off-take services for agricultural products, including cassava starch, maize starch, bulk tomato paste, fiber, and rice.
According to her, Tiast Group designs and installs automated factories for cassava, and more, with training and off-sales support.
She again said, Tiast Group also ensures global market access by offering fast offtake services at international price for our processed goods.
She revealed that Tiast Group helps tackle financial barriers in agriculture with up to 80% support to own an automated agro-factory.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Madam. Fiati said Tiast Group is West Africa Company Limited set to revolutionize agriculture in the Oti Region through a groundbreaking industrialization project. Mr. Lawrence Owusu, Development Chief, told GNA that the proposed project includes a 2,000-acre cassava farm and factory, valued at a minimum of $5 million.
He emphasized that the factory would utilize an out-grower system, partnering with local farmers to cultivate cassava specifically for starch production.
Mr. Owusu said the initiative is expected to benefit around 150-200 farmers directly and indirectly, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
The development chief narrated that,local farmers will benefit from a reliable market for their produce, as well as the necessary skills and knowledge to improve their farming practices.
He assured that with meetings scheduled before the end of the year, this project is set to become a reality in the early part of next year, bringing much-needed economic stimulus to the region.
Mr. Gyapong commended the investors for their interest in developing the region’s agricultural sector and assured them of the Oti Regional Co-ordinating Council support.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to agriculture in the region, noting that 24, 200 hectares of irrigation farms have been allocated to two districts in the Oti Region.
He described the Tiast Group’s initiative as a blessing to the region, emphasizing the potential for economic growth and job creation.
The Minister assured the investors of the ORCC’s support, stating that the council is ready to work with them to bring development and jobs to the residents of the region.
He expressed optimism that the project would have a positive impact on the local economy and improve the lives of the people.
