Rescue operations are underway in the mountainous Dampayaw Forest Reserve, near Brofoyedu Sikaman community in the Adansi South District to retrieve the bodies of eight persons who perished in the military helicopter crash on Wednesday afternoon.
The victims, including the Minister for Defence, Dr Kofi Omane Boamah and the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and innovation, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and other government officials, met their death when the helicopter crashed into a tree resulting in the tragedy.
They were on official duty to Obuasi.

The rest of the victims were Alhaji Muhammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Samuel Sarpong, a National Vice Chairman of NDC, Mr Samuel Aboagye, former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
At the time of filing this report, another military helicopter from Accra, had arrived at the crash scene to retrieve the bodies from the debris.
Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister and other government officials together, with rescue teams from both the military, fire service and the police are on sight to convey the bodies of the victims from the forest.
The mountainous nature of the forest reserve is making it very difficult since vehicles are unable to move to the scene to retrieve the bodies.
Anxious community members, journalists and other sympathizers, who are unable to climb the mountain, have remained beneath it, waiting to receive additional information from the rescue workers.
