Napo campaigning for Dr. Bawumia in Kumasi
MEMBERS OF the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been advised to guard against creating deep-seated cracks in the party that will be difficult to amend after Saturday’s presidential primary.
They have, therefore, been admonished to avoid utterances that have the tendency of defaming other members and creating enmity in the elephant family, especially as the Election Day approaches.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, the NPP running mate for the 2024 presidential elections, who gave the advice, stated emphatically that the party should quickly unite as one family after Saturday’s election.
In this regard, he has urged the various contestants in the election and their supporters to, as a matter of urgency, shun all verbal attacks, name-calling and unprovoked attacks against their opponents.
“We must do what is necessary to contest ideas and positions, but we must also leave room for reconciliation,” Napo, a former Minister for Energy during the NPP administration, remarked.
He admitted that naturally every election would generate tension during the campaign period, but he was quick to state that the NPP members shouldn’t allow such tensions to create deep cracks in the party.
“There will always be tensions and incidents during internal campaigns. That notwithstanding, they must never descend into insults, aggression, or violence. Such conduct has no place in our party and does not reflect our values.
“When the internal campaign ends, we must be able to return to one another as one party, united in purpose and ready to move forward together. Power struggle shouldn’t divide us,” Napo, who is campaigning for Dr. Bawumia, told NPP delegates in Kumasi.
