Kumawood actor, Salinko, has sounded a strong warning to outspoken social commentators Twene Jonas and Kelvin Taylor, urging them to put an end to what he describes as a growing “culture of insults” in Ghanaian discourse.
In a video shared by Ghkwaku on Instagram, Salinko expressed concern that the unchecked spread of abusive commentary, particularly online, could have dangerous consequences for the nation.
“If we don’t take a closer look at what is happening, it will hurt the country in the long run,” he cautioned. “This trend of insulting leaders and elders online is not just disrespectful, it is risky. Young people now feel emboldened to insult the president or people old enough to be their parents. That’s not the kind of society we want.”
He pointed fingers at Twene Jonas and Kelvin Taylor, both based in the United States, accusing them of fueling the trend.
“You may live in a peaceful country where authorities can quickly control chaos if insults lead to conflict,” Salinko said. “But here in Ghana, it doesn’t work that way. The young ones are copying your behaviour, and it’s making them disrespectful. Please, Jonas and Kelvin, be mindful of the influence you have.”
He further noted that the same individuals who hurl insults online would never dare speak in such a manner if they met influential figures like President John Mahama, former President Nana Akufo-Addo, or the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in person.
Salinko also extended his caution to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), calling on both major political parties to rein in members who use insults in political debates.
“A country cannot be built on insults,” he stressed.
