Suspect Bright Aweh in police custody
The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested suspect Bright Aweh for his alleged involvement in the murder of Immigration officer Stephen King Amoah, whose burnt body was discovered yesterday, July 9, 2025, in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate, Accra.
This follows intensive police operations, which led to the arrest of the suspect Bright Aweh, who admitted during interrogation to having given the deceased GHC 500,000.00 in cash. He claimed to have directed the deceased to use part of the money to pay off some debts and hold the remaining amount for later collection. However, the suspect could not clearly explain the source of the funds and gave conflicting statements.
The late 38-year-old immigration officer was discovered five days after the family declared him missing on July 4, 2025. Following his disappearance, the frustrated family of Stephen King Amoah, complained to the Taifa Police on July 4, 2025, at about 4:30 p.m., after several attempts to reach the deceased on his cell phone proved futile.
He is said to have left his Gye Nyame House, Musuku Junction at Kwabenya, to meet a friend at Ashongman Estate, also in Accra, for a discussion.
Subsequently, on the morning of July 9, 2025, the Police discovered a severely burnt body at the said location and conveyed it to the Police Hospital morgue.
Following this development, investigators from the Taifa Police joined the scene and later proceeded to the morgue with the complainant and six other relatives. At the morgue, despite the extent of the burns, the relatives positively identified the body as Stephen King Amoah.
Background
Investigation revealed that on July 3, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., the deceased left his residence at Ashongman Estate after receiving WhatsApp images of cash bundles from one Bright Aweh, who requested to meet him at a spot at Ashongman Estate to settle an outstanding amount.
According to the complainant, the deceased never returned home that night, and his phone remained switched off thereafter.
Head of Public Affairs, Accra Region, Ms. Juliana Obeng [Supt], in a statement, condemned the violent and criminal acts and assured the public that the police are working diligently to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this incident and bring all responsible persons to justice. “The Command urges anyone with information relevant to this case to contact the nearest Police Station or call the Police emergency numbers 18555 or 192,” she stated
