The 2001 year group of Presbyterian Senior High School, Legon has held a sod-cutting and fundraising ceremony to begin construction of staff accommodation on campus.
The ceremony, which came off on Friday, formed part of efforts by the alumni group to mobilise resources for a legacy project aimed at expanding residential facilities for teachers at the school.

The sod-cutting was led by the Global President of the PRESEC Old Boys’ Association (?dade?), Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, together with the headmaster, Mr. David Odjidja; the school chaplain, Reverend Anthony Ani and the leadership of the ?dade? 2001 year group.
Following the sod-cutting, guests were ushered to the plot where the facility is expected to be constructed in the coming months.

The initiative, known as the ?dade? 2001 Legacy Project, is part of activities marking the group’s 25th anniversary, which coincides with the school’s 88th anniversary celebration.
Organisers say the project involves the construction of a four-unit, two-bedroom staff apartment to increase residential accommodation for teachers on campus.
The proposed facility will be located at the ?dade? 2001 Square construction site within the school.
Members of the alumni group explained that the project is intended to help address the growing accommodation gap for teaching staff despite the school’s large student population.
Currently, the school houses about 3,290 boarding students, but only 59 teachers reside on campus. According to the group, this situation creates challenges for effective supervision, academic mentoring and pastoral care for students.
They also indicated that limited residential facilities for teachers affect efforts to maintain the recommended teacher–student ratio in Ghana, which stands at 1:40.
The alumni believe expanding on-campus accommodation will make it easier for the school to attract and retain more resident teachers while improving staff availability beyond classroom hours.

They added that increased teacher presence on campus could strengthen student discipline and enhance emergency response within the boarding school environment.
Organisers of the fundraising have premised their efforts on the theme “Oh come along and join us,” an expression drawn from the school anthem intended to mobilise support from old students, corporate organisations and other partners.
Odade? 2001 is assured that the project, when completed will serve as a lasting contribution to the continued development of the school and future generations of students.
