By Seth KRAMPAH, Kumasi
Kumasi is about to experience a musical eruption of legendary proportions. On Sunday, December 28, 2025, the city’s cultural heartbeat will pulse louder than ever as DK Events presents Legacy Nite, a grand celebration of Abrantie Amakye Dede’s 50-year journey in music. The venue? None other than the iconic quadrangle at Miklin Hotel, a space that has hosted countless memories, but none quite like what’s coming.
For half a century, Amakye Dede has been the voice behind Ghana’s most enduring highlife anthems. From Iron Boy to Kosekose, Akodawesua, Sansakroma, Sika ne Barima, among others, his music has transcended generations, becoming the soundtrack to weddings, heartbreaks, road trips and jubilant family gatherings.
Now, the man himself returns to Kumasi not just to perform, but to be honoured, celebrated and surrounded by fellow musical giants and thousands of adoring fans.
Legacy Nite isn’t just a tribute; it’s a convergence of Ghana’s finest. Sharing the stage with Amakye Dede will be Oheneba Kissi, whose silky vocals and romantic ballads have long defined the soul of highlife. Kwabena Kwabena, the modern crooner with a timeless voice, will bring his signature blend of highlife and contemporary flair. Nana Acheampong, one half of the legendary Lumba Brothers, will stir nostalgia with his unmistakable melodies.
And then comes the generational bridge: Fameye, the voice of Ghana’s youth, whose introspective lyrics and Afrobeat rhythms have captured hearts across the country. Samini, the evergreen dancehall king, will inject raw energy and charisma into the night, ensuring that Legacy Nite isn’t just reflective; it’s electric. Together, this lineup forms a mosaic of Ghana’s musical evolution from the golden age of highlife to the vibrant pulse of today’s Afrobeat and dancehall.
Kumasi isn’t just a city; it’s a cultural capital. Its people breathe music, live rhythm and celebrate heritage. Hosting Legacy Nite in Kumasi is a nod to the city’s deep connection to Amakye Dede’s legacy. Many of his early performances, radio interviews and fanbase milestones trace back to the Ashanti Region.
The Miklin Hotel quadrangle, with its open-air charm and central location, offers the perfect setting for this historic night. As the sun sets and the lights come on, the venue will transform into a shrine of sound, memory and celebration.
Legacy Nite is not just about entertainment; it’s about honouring resilience, creativity and the power of music to unite generations. Amakye Dede’s career has weathered political transitions, technological shifts and changing musical tastes.
Yet, his voice remains relevant, his lyrics still resonate and his performances continue to draw crowds. This event is also a statement: that Ghanaian music deserves grand stages, that our legends should be celebrated while they’re still with us, and that the future of our sound is rooted in honouring the past.
