Poetry Corner with Kwesi BISSUE: Tongue Rollers versus Ball Jugglers

In the place called here

I see more tongue rollers

Than I see ball jugglers

I see more train coaches off the track

Than I see ball jugglers on the turf

I hear more lips in service

Than juggling feet on the field

 

I feel more outraged as I see

As I hear

As I hear tongues wag

As I hear train coaches get the sack

As I see black ball jugglers begin to slack

 

In the place called here

I see them gather

Some to be spectators

Some as citizens

In the Stade de Capital

I hear them cheer up National Stars

I hear them cheering

Only at a National win

 

But I hear them murmuring

I see them mourning

Because a National squad failed to clinch a win

Because a Black Star

Did not possess the magic wand

 

In the place called here

Expectations can rise high

To high fever pitch

Expecting to fly the flag high

On the National pitch

Embracing nothing else that is less

Than a declaration as victors

At the end of a dribbling duel

Nothing except to hear the sound of victory

Spoken in glowing letters

 

In the place called here

Train coaches must fall from the heavenly realm

Down unto the grass green terrain

With the great juggling pattern

 

Train coaches must be an imported delivery

Even if they land with credentials as cheap as the ordinary

Even as they are handed pockets heavily laden

 

Train coaches must not be formed from the local brewing pot

Train coaches must not be of the native sort

For they shall be booted out

Without a further juggling thought

Black ball jugglers must ascend to a Super League

Black ball jugglers must descend from an international stage

Must have tackled Christiano

Must have attacked Roberto

Must have partnered Rivaldo

Black ball jugglers must be chauffeured in a Prado Sorrento

 

In the place called here

Where everything is an avoidable afterthought

Where best juggling practices are always ad hoc

Where long term juggling pattern is off the drawing board

Where a golden name is better than a glittering team

There the golden dream simmers cold…it seems
