Engineers have been urged to uphold the highest professional standards to guarantee safety, reliability and trust in their work across industries.
According to Chairman-Engineering Council Board Dr. Sitsofe David Addo, strict adherence to ethical codes, continuous professional development and commitment to quality in design and execution are vital for sustaining confidence in the engineering sector from both government and private stakeholders.
Dr. Addo made this call during the Engineering Council’s Board of Technical Committees inauguration held in Accra. He stressed that professional excellence in engineering practice is achieved through effective regulation, monitoring practitioners’ performance and ensuring compliance with both local and international codes and standards.
“Maintaining high professional standards is critical for engineers to ensure their work meets safety, reliability and ethical benchmarks,” he said. “Adherence to codes of conduct, rigorous quality control and ongoing education will help engineers keep pace with technological advancements and maintain accountability to prevent failures that could endanger the public or environment.”
The committee members’ appointment was made in accordance with the Engineering Council Act, 2011 (Act 819) and Engineering Council Regulations, 2020 (L.I. 2410).
The newly constituted Technical Committee forms part of the Engineering Council’s fourth board, chaired by Samuel Magnus Asiedu. Other members include Frederick Asare Yeboah, Engr. Dr. Miriam Eduful, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Boadu, Dr. Dennis Ekow, Archilbald Danquah-Amoah, Getrude Awumee, Joseph Buckson and Atsu Gadasu.
Dr. Addo noted that the committee will report directly to the Governing Board in executing its mandate, with members serving for a term determined by the Board.
He advised collective support for both the committee and Council to enable them effectively discharge their duties in advancing national development.
