The government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has awarded diplomatic passports to five distinguished Ghanaian figures in recognition of their significant contributions to the nation’s global reputation.
The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa at the media launch of the 2025 Diaspora Summit earlier this week. The news was widely welcomed as all five are hardworking individuals in their respective fields.
The recipients include Wode Maya (Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon), a prominent travel vlogger with over 1.2 million subscribers on YouTube, Lady Dentaa Amoateng MBE, founder of the Ghana UK-Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards, broadcaster Anita Erskine, internationally renowned reggae artist Rocky Dawuni, and Ibrahim Mahama, a world-class visual artist known for his large-scale installations that explore themes of trade and colonialism.
This gesture is part of government’s broader strategy to promote African unity and integration, leveraging cultural diplomacy to strengthen ties with the global diaspora.
The honorees are tasked with representing Ghana at the Diaspora Summit, an event aimed at fostering dialogue on diaspora investments and addressing African issues globally. As ambassadors of the summit, they will also support key initiatives such as the Black Star Experience and other strategic global engagements.
