For Adongo N. Atinga, a student of Abe Halperin School in Tamale, the 2025 edition of The Literacy Challenge was more than just a competition, it became a journey of discipline, courage, and brilliance that ended with him being crowned Ghana’s Best 11-15 year-old Student.
From the very first stage of the essay competition, Adongo’s sharp writing skills and originality stood out among hundreds of entries from across the country. His essay earned him a place in the second stage, the aptitude test, where he once again proved his mettle with exceptional logical reasoning and analytical ability.
He advanced confidently into the quiz stage, where he faced off against some of the brightest 11-15-year-old students in Ghana. With quick thinking and an impressive grasp of knowledge, Adongo secured his spot among the Top 10 finalists for the grand finale.
On Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Alisa Hotel in North Ridge, Accra, the final showdown tested contestants in four rigorous rounds, including aptitude, general knowledge, and science practicals. Before a packed audience, Adongo delivered a commanding performance that set him apart.
His consistency, calm composure, and sharp intellect ultimately earned him the ultimate prize of GH¢10,000 cash, a sparkling trophy, and the prestigious title of champion of The Literacy Challenge 2025.
Speaking after his victory, Adongo described the experience as life-changing:
“This competition has taught me that hard work and confidence truly pay off. I am grateful to my teachers, my family, and everyone who supported me.”
The first runner-up, Ama Asantewa Atta-Duncan of Bishop Bowers School, Accra, also delivered an outstanding performance, winning GH¢3,000 and sponsor prizes. Edudzi Kofi Yeboah of Covenant Presby School, Accra, placed third, walking away with GH¢2,000 and sponsor packages.
The Literacy Challenge 2025 once again highlighted the brilliance of Ghana’s young minds and reinforced the importance of literacy and critical thinking in shaping the nation’s future.
For Adongo, the victory was not just about winning; it was about proving that determination and passion could place any student, no matter where they came from, at the very top.
The Literacy Challenge 2025 was organized by Citi FM in partnership with Channel One TV, and sponsored by BEL MOOO and GB Assessment.
