Edumentors, the UK-based online tutoring platform, has raised US$2million in seed funding to develop Edu AI – the first fully interactive, human-like AI tutor.
The round was led by Abu Dhabi-based Magna Investments, with participation from angel investors in over 10 countries, including AI start-up founders, Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) and education experts. The funding will accelerate the company’s mission to deliver high-quality, personalised education to students worldwide.
Since its launch in 2022, Edumentors has built a niche in online education by pairing children with high-achieving student-tutors from leading UK universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. This role-model approach builds trust and motivation, with 98 percent of parents reporting significant improvement in their child’s performance.
The company has sold over 100,000 lessons across 35 countries, generating US$3million in sales – a reflection of both growth and scalability.
Taking role-model tutoring to the next level
Edu AI combines proven human teaching expertise with advanced AI to deliver one-to-one sessions that closely replicate live tutoring. Unlike passive video lessons or cartoon avatars, Edu AI adapts in real time – breaking down complex topics, tracking progress and using human-like characters with facial and body language recognition to keep students engaged.
“Every student deserves a world-class education, regardless of location or background,” said Tornike Asatiani, Founder & CEO of Edumentors. “With Edu AI, we’re opening doors for hundreds of millions of learners to access instruction once reserved for a privileged few.”
The platform recreates the tutoring experience with interactive diagrams, whiteboards, personalised notes and on-screen exercises – responding to non-verbal cues in real time. By removing cost and access barriers, Edu AI makes personalised tutoring available to learners everywhere.
Funding round surpasses targets
The US$2million seed funding will accelerate Edumentors’ human-to-human tutoring platform and research and development (R&D) for Edu AI. The company has already launched three AI tools: an exam-marking assistant, an AI avatar parent influencer and a tutor training module. These innovations lay the foundation for Edu AI and future products such as an AI Co-pilot.
Global growth potential
The global online tutoring market is projected to reach US$27billion at 14.5 percent annual growth, with AI tutoring projected to push those numbers even higher. Edumentors aims to reach millions of families worldwide, with plans to enter the U.S. and other markets.
“By combining proven human tutoring with breakthrough AI capabilities, Edumentors has the opportunity to redefine education at scale,” said investor Richard Hargreaves. “It’s a model built for both impact and growth.”
