Ghana Rubber Estates Limited (GREL) has handed over a one-unit, two-bedroom semi-detached nurses’ quarters to the Abura Health Centre in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.
The facility, valued at GH¢700,000, is expected to improve accommodation for health workers and enhance healthcare delivery in the community.
At a brief ceremony, GREL’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Perry Acheampong, said the project reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable community development through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
He explained that nurses posted to Abura had faced long daily commutes, which affected service delivery, and expressed confidence that the new quarters would improve efficiency and accessibility of healthcare.
Mr. Acheampong acknowledged the support of chiefs, elders, the Municipal Assembly and the Health Directorate, adding that the project symbolises progress when businesses and communities work together.
The Chief of Abura, Nana Kweku Mensah, who donated land for the project, commended GREL for completing the facility within a year and urged rubber farmers to sell their produce to the company to enable it to fund more community projects. He also appealed to GREL to tar the road from Abura Junction to the health facility to ease access for patients, particularly expectant mothers.
Ahanta West Municipal Chief Executive, Ebenezer Kofi Aidoo, praised GREL’s interventions and urged the company to repaint the health centre. Municipal Health Director, Emmanuel Bediena, also thanked GREL and local chiefs, assuring that the facility would be maintained and used to deliver quality healthcare.
Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX, Chairman of the Association of Chiefs on whose land GREL operates, further commended the company for its continuous support to host communities.
