Societe Generale (SG) Ghana as part of its long-standing commitment to healthcare development and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), has donated cardiac equipment valued at GH?330,000 to the National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCTC) at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The equipment donated included an Electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, an automatic cardiac defibrillator, and four patient monitors —these equipment are to reinforce the Centre’s capacity in delivering life-saving cardiac care.
Speaking at the donation event, Deputy Managing Director (DMD) – SG Ghana, Kwame Abbey, explained that the bank’s support mirrors its belief that the health of a community is integral to its socio-economic resilience.
“At SG Ghana, we believe that the health of a community is fundamental to its ability to thrive. Good health enables individuals to contribute meaningfully to the economy, to their families, and to society at large. As a bank, we recognize that our responsibility extends beyond financial services — we are also here to invest in the well-being of the communities we serve,” he noted.
Mr. Abbey further reiterated the bank’s track record in supporting the Ghana Heart Foundation, citing previous donations of GH?20,000 in 2011, GH?40,000 in 2013, GH?33,000 in 2015, and GH?160,000 in 2019.
He said; “Today’s gesture reaffirms our dedication to making a life-changing impact in Ghana’s health sector.”
According to the DMD, CSR – whether economic, social, environmental, or societal, is not just an add-on but a core component of the bank’s identity which is embedded in its operational ethos and not treated as an additional project.
Mr. Abbey stressed that SG Ghana is strategically focused on promoting inclusive, sustainable development through economic, social, environmental, and societal interventions.
“Being a responsible bank also means minimizing the environmental and social impacts of our operations, and ensuring our products and services are inclusive and sustainable. We are deeply committed to promoting sustainable development through our internal practices, our role as an employer, and through strategic sponsorships such as today’s,” the DMD noted.
Acknowledging the hard work of doctors and the entire team at the NCTC he thanked and urged them to be diligent at what they do.
Speaking on behalf of the NCTC, the Director, Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, reaffirmed its commitment to providing excellent cardiothoracic services, research, and advocacy, and added that the equipment will directly strengthen their ability to respond to the most critical cases.
He further said that the equipment donated will be well taken off and put to good use.
“We assure you that the equipment will be put to excellent use and maintained with the highest standards in service to every patient who will benefit from it,” he pledged.
The National Cardiothoracic Centre is Ghana’s leading referral facility for heart and chest-related conditions, and the new equipment is expected to improve response times and diagnostic accuracy for critical cardiac emergencies.
