The Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF), in collaboration with the Gold Coast Medical Foundation and Arise to Connect Africa, has organised a free health screening exercise for residents of Ntotroso in the Ahafo Region.
More than 400 individuals participated in the outreach programme, which was also supported by the Ntotroso Nursing and Midwifery College—a tertiary institution established by NADeF to enhance healthcare training in the region and beyond.
The screening covered a range of services, including malaria testing, blood pressure checks, hepatitis B and typhoid screening, eye examinationsq, and general medical consultations. Some beneficiaries received first aid and medication on-site, while others requiring advanced medical care were referred to nearby health facilities for further treatment.
The initiative forms part of NADeF’s commitment to improving the well-being of residents in its host communities, especially those with limited access to basic healthcare services.
Speaking to journalists during the exercise, Elizabeth Opoku-Darko, Executive Secretary of NADeF, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to advancing public health. “This annual health screening is part of our strategic efforts to address pressing health needs in our communities. By bringing these services closer to residents, we help promote early detection and preventive healthcare,” she stated.
She said that the initiative also demonstrates the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships in delivering impactful CSR programmes that contribute to community resilience and sustainable development. NADeF, which operates as the CSR arm of Newmont Ahafo Mines, has over the years rolled out several community-focused projects in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.
