
Bernard Akyin-Arkoh, a Chartered Insurance Practitioner has officially launched his latest book titled Improving Disaster Management in Africa: The Role of Insurance in Preparedness, Mitigation, Response and Recovery. The launch event, held last week virtually, recorded an impressive turnout of over 70 participants from across the African continent and beyond.
“It was a great honor to host Dr. Abiba Zakariah, Commissioner of Insurance, as Special Guest of Honor, and Boatemaa Barfour-Awuah, CEO of Star Assurance Limited, as Special Guest Speaker. Both dignitaries, along with other distinguished speakers and stakeholders from across Africa, spoke highly of the book, offering strong endorsements of its relevance and impact. Their insightful remarks reflected a shared commitment to advancing resilience and highlighted the book as a timely and valuable contribution to disaster risk management and insurance practice on the continent,” the author noted in a statement after the launch.

More on the author
Mr. Akyin-Arkoh is also a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and an author. He was named the Overall Winner of the 2025 AIO Book Award, 2nd Runner-Up for the 2024 AIO-YIPs African Next Generation Award and recipient of the Young Achiever Award at the 2024 Ghana Insurance Awards.
He holds an Executive MBA in Finance and currently works with Star Assurance Limited. Bernard contributes to industry capacity building as a resource person for the Ghana Insurance College (GIC) and serves as a member of the Professional Education and Research Committee of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG).
