The Entrance University of Health Sciences (EUHS), Ghana’s first private medical university, with a strong vision to revolutionize healthcare education and delivery across the West African sub-region has been outdoored
The university’s affiliation with Tobinco Group seeks to drive collaborative research on Africa’s healthcare challenges, facilitate exchange programs with West and Central Africa, build healthcare professionals’ capacity in emerging tech, and promote “Made in Ghana” pharmaceutical and healthcare products across the continent.
The launch, held in Accra brought together 32 top officials from 13 African countries, including ministers, healthcare leaders, and policymakers.
Positioned as a pioneer in medical education, the Entrance University of Health Sciences is committed to nurturing a new generation of skilled, ethical and globally competent healthcare professionals across medicine, nursing, dentistry, and pharmacy.
As part of its offering, the university will also operate the Entrance Dental Hospital, which will offer community services while enhancing student training through hands-on clinical experience.
The vice president, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang commended Entrance University of Health Sciences (EUHS) for its commitment to training healthcare professionals who will contribute significantly to national development.
“I commend you and also encourage you to ensure that there are an appreciable number of students clinically trained to meet the huge patient health care services demand” Vice President urged.
Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh said “the creation of schools, alongside the investment in clinical infrastructure demonstrate foresight, commitment, and a strong sense of national responsibility by the management of the institution.”
Mr Akandoh hinted that although progress has been achieved, many communities in the country lack significant access to medical, nursing, and dental services due to significant gaps in human health resources.
Nana Samuel Amo Tobbin, Chancellor and Chairman of the Tobinco Group, shared the driving force behind Entrance University of Health Sciences, emphasizing that the institution represents a transformative movement aimed at revolutionizing healthcare in Africa.
“Entrance University of Health Sciences is more than a school; it is a movement to revolutionize healthcare in Africa by training highly skilled healthcare professionals who will drive innovation, compassionate care, and community development,” he revealed.
The institution comprises four faculties, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and nursing with state-of-the-art facilities for hands-on training, providing students practical experience to tackle healthcare challenges effectively.
According to him, the institution’s key commitments include strengthening the healthcare workforce, driving research that tackles Africa’s specific health challenges, promoting community healthcare initiatives, and fostering economic growth in Ghana through job creation and other contributions.
“We are committed to enhancing the healthcare workforce in Ghana and Africa, advancing research that addresses the continent’s unique health challenges, supporting community healthcare initiatives and outreach and creating employment opportunities and contributing to Ghana’s economy,” he mentioned.
The Chancellor called on government and development partners to provide scholarships and financial support to broaden access for students pursuing medical education, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.
Driving economic growth through education, the university’s establishment aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy and the Big Push initiative, positioning Ghana as a hub for medical education and healthcare investment.
He stated that “the inauguration serves as a platform for regional leaders, investors, and stakeholders to explore healthcare and economic collaborations that will benefit Ghana and the broader African region.”
The university features facilities, including phantom heads for dental training, fully equipped dental chairs, and a modern dental hospital. Additionally, it has best-in-class labs such as dissecting, microbiology, histology, cadaver, physiology, pharmacology, medical simulation, computer, and biochemistry labs for comprehensive hands-on learning.
Other facilities at the university also include interactive lecture halls and a well-equipped morgue for medical anatomy and pathology practicals, demonstrating its commitment to producing competent, confident, and compassionate healthcare professionals through advanced, hands-on training and education.
