Africa World Airlines (AWA) launched its highly awaited direct flight from Accra to Ouagadougou’s new Donsin International Airport at Palms by Eagles, formerly Holiday Inn at Airport City in Accra.
The Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Ghana, Mr. David Kabre, as well as the Vice President of AWA, Mr. Zhang Andy, attended the launch.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Kabre noted that this development would strengthen diplomatic ties between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
“Today, we celebrate West African unity. This development came at a perfect time when our bilateral trade has hit US$22m annually,” he said.
“Ghanaian business are making the mark in Burkina Faso, especially in communication and construction”. This, he said, will make it easier for more Ghanaians to explore opportunities in Burkina’s growing economy.
“Our mining sector goes beyond Gold, and this includes zinc, manganese and phosphate. Ghana’s technology and services would find ready market in Burkina Faso,.”
The universities in Burkina Faso will be able to bring in students to aid in partnerships, with Ghanaian universities giving students the chance to take part in exchange programmes, projects and academic collaborations – all made possible by Africa World Airlines (AWA).
“Provisional exchange in healthcare, engineering, education and technology will be facilitated by this route; Burkina Faso has much to learn from Ghana’s experience and also to share knowledge”, he said.
Mr. Kabre took the opportunity to thank the Vice President of AWA, Mr. Zhang, and speak about the impact this will have on the transport community of both countries because to him, there are thousands of Burkinabé citizens working in Ghana and contributing to national development while maintaining strong ties with the homeland.
This, he said, will help Burkinabé businessmen in Kumasi to attend family celebration without losing weeks of work, as well as avoiding the risks of travelling by road. The route, he indicated, would strengthen the human bond that have the foundation of improving lasting international friendship.
He also said Burkina Faso has been a strong advocate for African solution to African challenges for intra-Africa trade and economic transformation through the African Continental Free Trade Agreement .
He expressed a deep gratitude to Africa World Airline for choosing Ouagadougou as their new destination. “This decision demonstrates confidence in our country’s potential and commitment to West Africa.”
He went further and said this is not only a launch of a route but also to friendship and partnership.
He thanked the Government of Ghana and the President, His Excellency John Mahamma, for his continuous support in regional aviation and fostering collaboration.
