The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, last Sunday June 1, at a lavishly spread event, officially inaugurated the Despite Automobile Museum, a multi-million dollar facility in East Legon, Accra, dedicated to showcasing some of the most iconic and luxurious vehicles ever manufactured.
Touted as Ghana’s premier destination for car enthusiasts and history lovers seeking an unforgettable journey through time and innovation, the collection, carefully curated, showcases some of the world’s most iconic automobiles, each with a rich history and a story to tell.
An invitation to marvel at classic vintage cars, explore the evolution of luxury and performance or simply enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience, the museum presents a world where innovation meets luxury, and the spirit of automotive excellence inspires.
Located at the same site as the erstwhile Lizzy Sports Complex, the museum houses some of the rarest and most celebrated vehicles in automotive history.
Here, some of the exclusive collection of legendary cars displayed are never before seen up close in Ghana.
Each iconic automobile tells a story of innovation and craftsmanship, and presents a dynamic way to explore history, technology and design through the world of classic and exotic cars.
Ideal for school tours, corporate outings and special occasions, the collection includes classic Bugattis, a Rolls Royce Silver Wraith LWB, multiple Bentleys, high-end Mercedes-Benz models, Jaguars and Harley Davidson motorbikes.
The museum also features modern driving simulators to offer an immersive, hands-on experience for visitors.
A passion project born out of Mr. Despite’s life-long interest in automobiles, what began as a private hobby has now been transformed into a public institution, offering a rare glimpse into the personal collection of one of Ghana’s most influential entrepreneurs.
The opening ceremony drew a high-profile guest list, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor, businessman Ibrahim Mahama, real estate mogul Nana Kwame Bediako, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and rapper Sarkodie, among others. Their presence underscored the significance of the museum as both a cultural and social landmark.
