The Governing Council of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has been inaugurated, with a strong call for members to work collaboratively to preserve the identity of the university while championing its educational and infrastructural development agenda.
At the inauguration ceremony held at the University’s Council Chamber, the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, conveyed President John Mahama’s message of trust and confidence in the council’s integrity and experience.
“President Mahama has asked me to convey to you his utmost trust and confidence in your integrity, and in your enormous and diverse experiences as members of the council, and to encourage you to work to preserve the identity of the university,” he said.
Mr. Iddrisu commended the university for its achievements over the years, noting that it has contributed significantly to national development by producing key human resources.
He urged the new council to uphold the legacy of its predecessors and maintain the university’s reputation and standards.
The council is chaired by Ambassador Alhaji Abdullah Salifu. Other members include Prof. Seidu Al-Hassan, Vice-Chancellor of UDS; Dr. Fatima Iddrisu Abu and Dr. Arnold Mashud, senior lecturers at Tamale Technical University; Madam Magdalene Awinyeliya Kanae; and Prof. Edmund Muonir Der.
Additional members are Dr. Yaa Nyarko Adjeso; Prof. Mamudu Abunga Akugudu, UTAG President; Mr Bruce Kambotun; Mr. Mohammed Abdulai Gonazoo; Prof. Terry Ansah, UDS Alumni President; Mr. Emmanuel Asampana; Mrs Abiba Nyar; and Mr. Alhassan Issah Dokurugu.
Mr. Iddrisu reiterated the government’s commitment to advancing research in higher education through the operationalisation of the National Research Fund. He praised UDS for bridging the educational development gap between the north and south, highlighting its unique contribution.
