Organisers of AfroTorch Festival, which involves a series of events and activities including curated tours, immersive experiences and creative collaborations showcasing the best of Africa and its people, have announced plans to stage the second edition of the annual festival at a special launch event held on the sidelines of the just-ended Africa edition of the World Travel Market (WTM) exhibition with a networking event with some 60 guests, notably South African travel agents, tour operators and some WTM participants in attendance at the rooftop of the Grand Daddy Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa.
Established in 2023, this year’s edition of AfroTorch is scheduled to take place in the historic town of Cape Coast in December.
“Our aim is to bridge the past and present — sparke reconnection, healing and pride in African heritage and culture; and this year’s edition continues our vision to develop an event that is part of a cultural movement, travel collective, storytelling brand dedicated to illuminating the richness of Africa and its diaspora,” states Micheal Orleans, MD of Cape Coast-based tour company Torch Light Tours – hosts of the festival.
Long held to be the tourism hub of Ghana, Oguaa (Cape Coast) – the Central Regional capital – gets a makeover and an opportunity to reinvent itself with the advent of this unique destination event which features an itinerary highlighted by walking tours of the twin towns, Cape Coast and Elmina, as well as guided runs of the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites there.
“It’s a long lineup. Like last year, we have a cultural fair, curated nightlife, the All Black Beach Party & Music Festival, a street carnival and masquerade parade,” explains Orleans, who says the event is part of the larger ‘December in Ghana Experience’.
It is expected, as usual, to dive deep into the heart of Ghana’s rich history, customs and vibrant Afrocentric ecosystem.
Urging the African diaspora to “Unleash your blackness”, Orleans, inviting the world to come to Ghana, says: “This is more than a trip – it’s an invitation to connect with the spirit of the Diaspora, learn about our shared history and celebrate unity. Whether here for the culture, community or adventure, AfroTorch in Cape Coast promises an unforgettable journey to end the year on a powerful note.”
A legacy in motion, AfroTorch is a torchbearer, a culture keeper with aims to inspire and see the African community united by purpose and passion.
Now focused on the Ghana Experience, AfroTorch looks forward to walking the historic sands of Senegal, vibe to local rhythms in Gambia, enjoy the vibrancy of mother city moves of Cape Town, South Africa, make moves in Zanzibar and hold on to the breath of paradise in Seychelles Islands with all.
