Black Stars coach Otto Addo views the upcoming Unity Cup in London as a valuable opportunity for young players to showcase their talents.
The four-nation tournament, featuring Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica, will allow Addo to test new players while building on Ghana’s recent progress in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Addo has called up five debutants – Joseph Tetteh Anang, Aaron Essel, Caleb Yirenkyi, Abdul Aziz Issah, and Mohammed Gaddafi Fuseini – who have impressed at club or youth international level.
“Team building is a gradual process,” Addo said. “This tournament provides a great chance for our young players to prove themselves. We aim to create healthy competition within the team by giving all talents an equal platform to shine.”
Several key players, including Kamal Deen Sulemana, Ernest Nuamah, Antoine Semenyo, Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, Alexander Djiku and Mohammed Kudus, are absent due to conflicting schedules and minor injuries and fitness issues.
Ghana opens the tournament against Nigeria on May 28, with the winner advancing to the final on May 31. Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica complete the four-team lineup.
The losing teams will contest the third-place match.
The Unity Cup will serve as part of preparations for Ghana’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali in the September international window.
