Ghana Football Association( GFA) president Kurt Okraku has acknowledged the recent fluctuations in the Black Stars’ performances but is optimistic about the team’s progress.
Ghana’s poor performances in 2024 especially failing to qualify for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations marked a low point, with the team going six matches without a win.
However, back-to-back victories over Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers during the March internationals have shown promise.
“The Black Stars have had an inconsistent run,” Okraku admitted in an interview with Ghana FA media.
“But I believe our appeal to the sporting public for support has paid off. The players seem to have regained their confidence.”
The team is currently in London, England, for the Unity Cup, where they will face bitter rivals Nigeria, in the second semifinal of the four nation tournament.
The Black Stars will kick off their campaign against the Super Eagles on May 28, with the winner advancing to the final to face the winner of the first semifinal which is between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica.
The Unity Cup will serve as a crucial preparation platform for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where they will face Mali and Chad in the September internationals as they bid to qualify for back-to-back World Cups.
