A team of National Security operatives who besieged the residence of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, at Paraku Estate this morning, has withdrawn following a tense confrontation with his supporters.
The operation, which began early Friday morning, saw a combined team of police officers and National Security operatives storming Wontumi’s home, reportedly to execute a search warrant.
While a search warrant was sighted by Joy News, the specific reasons behind the raid remain unclear.
Earlier allegations had suggested Chairman Wontumi might have been placed under house arrest, though his whereabouts during the initial operation were unconfirmed.
The presence of the security personnel quickly drew a large crowd of Chairman Wontumi’s supporters and several senior NPP officials from the region, who gathered at the scene in response to the unfolding situation.
The standoff escalated into a tensed confrontation, ultimately leading to the withdrawal of the security operatives.
