The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has launched the 5th edition of the KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship in partnership with the KGL Foundation.
The ceremony, held at the KGL House in Labone, Accra, highlights Ghana’s commitment to grassroots football development and talent discovery.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku expressed gratitude to the KGL Foundation for their consistent support over the past five years.
“Let me begin by offering the sincerest appreciation of the GFA to our committed and forward-looking partner—the KGL Foundation,” he said.
“For five consecutive years, the KGL Foundation has stood tall in support of youth football in Ghana.”
The President emphasized that the KGL Foundation’s investment goes beyond financial aid, believing in Ghana’s future and becoming the bedrock of the GFA’s Colts football re-engineering and talent identification efforts.
He noted that several current U-17 national team players were discovered through the tournament.
The KGL Foundation’s Chief Executive, Elliot Dadey, spoke about the organization’s broader mission of youth empowerment through sport. “Since 2021, we’ve invested in kits, equipment, training, and, more importantly, in a belief system,” he said. “We’ve helped turn football into a viable path for these young boys to chase their dreams.”
The 2025 edition will feature 10 participating football regions, each receiving support from the KGL Foundation, including footballs, cones, bibs, and match jerseys. The tournament will be officiated by young, trained referees, aligning with the GFA’s Catch Them Young Policy.
The tournament is set to kick off in July 2025, with each region represented by a team selected from their respective colts competitions. The GFA and KGL Foundation are optimistic that the Championship will uncover the next generation of Ghanaian football stars, fueling dreams and reinforcing Ghana’s rich footballing tradition.
