
A routine search at Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, led to the arrest of a Form Two student found in possession of a locally manufactured firearm.
The incident subsequently resulted in the arrest of the student’s stepfather, who claimed ownership of the weapon.
According to a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the 16-year-old student was apprehended after school authorities discovered the firearm during a search conducted in the school’s dormitory at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
School officials promptly took the student into custody and handed him over to the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command for further investigation.
During questioning by the police, the suspect alleged that the firearm belonged to his stepfather, identified as Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi.

Following this claim, police located and arrested Mr. Owusu Baafi on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
DSP Ahianyo confirmed in the statement issued on Sunday, May 18, that both the student and his stepfather have since been granted police enquiry bail.
They are scheduled to report back to the police authorities on Monday, May 19, 2025, as investigations into the incident continue.
