Senior Communicator for Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu has said government must not overlook the claims by former Director of National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene in a memo to the National Security Coordinator.
Adu-Boahene has been accused of diverting state funds into his personal account and stealing money meant for state function.
In a move to propagate his innocence, Adu-Boahene in a letter, dated May 5, 2025, and addressed to the National Security Coordinator, Adu-Boahene reiterated his denial of misappropriating funds, asserting that a substantial portion of the Special Operations budget – specifically GHS 960,000 – was allocated to cover allowances for MPs serving on the crucial Defence and Interior Committee.
Referencing specific entries in what appears to be a log of Special Operations expenditure, Adu-Boahene highlighted allocations for “Election Special Ops – Logistics” amounting to GHS 5,135,000 in December 2024, aimed at ensuring the “Stability of Nation/National Cohesion/Political impartiality,” with a “Special Aide to President Elect” listed.
Solomon Owusu in an interview on TV3 New Day’s Big Issue, May 14, 2025 commended the embattled Kwabena Adu-Boahene for his revelation, insisting that more of such secret-spilling is needed for good governance.
“There is a quote in the bible which says: ‘By his wounds, we shall be healed’. Maybe by the wounds of Adu-Boahene, the entire nation shall be healed.
“Because the document that he released, we must not play with it. From my understanding, the gentleman is saying you have accused me of misapplication of funds and I am saying yes, I did misapply the funds but I did not do so in vacuum,” he stressed.
Mr. Owusu explained that all the expenses the former Director of the National Signals Bureau claim to have made are not included in his core duties, the reason he believes government must treat the leaked memo with the necessary attention.
“None of the things that he claims to had expended the monies on are part of his core mandate. Giving monies to the Defence and Interior Committee is not part of his mandate. He must speak more, reveal more,” he urged.
