The Acting Chief Executive Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, has paid a courtesy call on the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, to formally introduce himself and seek support in addressing some of the pressing challenges facing the hospital.
Dr. Baidoo described KATH as a critical facility that provides specialist healthcare services not only for the Ashanti Region but also for northern Ghana. He emphasized his commitment to collaborating with other stakeholders to enhance infrastructure, equipment, and staff welfare at the hospital.
He also raised concerns about accommodation for senior doctors and directors who were displaced due to the Danyame redevelopment project, requesting the Minister’s assistance in securing new flats near the hospital to ensure quick response in emergencies.
In response, Dr. Amoakohene praised KATH for its continued excellence in patient care, medical training, and research. He pledged his support and urged Dr. Baidoo to explore innovative solutions, especially to address persistent overcrowding at the Accident and Emergency Centre.
The Minister also mentioned that the government is working to complete both the Sewua Regional Hospital and the Military Hospital at Afari to ease the pressure on KATH.
Dr. Baidoo was accompanied by hospital directors and administrators, who used the opportunity to brief the Minister on ongoing projects and areas where further government and partner support is needed.
