
On the occasion of Mother’s Day, President John Dramani Mahama paid a special visit to his Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who is currently recuperating after a recent illness.
President Mahama shared a photo of the visit on his Facebook page on Sunday, May 11, 2025, expressing his admiration and appreciation for her.
“A special Mother’s Day greeting to my Vice President, @njoagyemang, whom I had the pleasure of visiting earlier this morning,” the President wrote.
“She is taking a deserved rest after recovering from illness and looking forward to resuming her duties soon.”
He extended warm wishes to all mothers across the country as well, adding,
“To her and all Ghanaian mothers, I say Happy Mother’s Day.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, was reported to have suffered a sudden illness on Friday, March 28, 2025, and subsequently sought medical attention at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the following day.
Following thorough evaluation, medical experts advised that she seek further treatment abroad as a precautionary step to ensure a full recovery.
Acting on the recommendation of her doctors, the Vice President began a three-week medical leave on April 7, 2025, focusing on rest and recovery while prioritising her overall well-being.
