President John Dramani Mahama has announced a *255# short code to facilitate public donations to the newly established Mahama Cares Health Fund.
The short code is applicable on all mobile networks in the country.
This initiative aims to provide financial assistance to Ghanaians living with chronic diseases, particularly Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
During a national address on Wednesday, May 7, President Mahama announced the short code and encouraged citizens, corporate organizations, and the general public to contribute generously to the fund.
He has also pledged to donate six months of his salary as seed money, a gesture matched by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. Furthermore, he has directed all his appointees to contribute one month’s salary to bolster the fund.
The Mahama Cares Health Fund seeks to bridge the gap in healthcare coverage by supporting the cost of care and medication for NCDs, complementing the NHIS.
The fund will also invest in critical health infrastructure, medical equipment, specialist training, and research to improve overall access to quality healthcare.
In his first 120-days address, President Mahama also provided an update on his administration’s campaign promises made within this period. He opined that all the 120-day promises have been fulfilled.
He highlighted key achievements, including the implementation of a Code of Conduct for political appointees, the cancellation of the controversial betting tax, the abolition of the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-levy), and efforts to streamline government operations.

“We made promises and we have kept them; our first 120 days have been defined by decisive action, commitment to transparency, and relentless focus on laying the foundation for building the Ghana we want, a just, prosperous, and united Ghana,” President Mahama stated.
The 120-day performance update is a core component of Mahama’s campaign pledge to enhance accountability and establish clear benchmarks for progress in governance.
